BoardROBERT G. MESSERSCHMIDTBob's career spans more than 25 years in the field of instrumentation for spectroscopy. Before joining Aspectrics, Bob was VP of Research at Fovioptics, a bay area start-up engaged in medical diagnostic instrumentation development. Prior to that, Bob held several management positions with spectroscopy companies. He was vice-president and co-founder of Rio Grande Medical Technologies, Inc. RGMT (now InLight Solutions), is a medical instrumentation company dedicated to the application of vibrational spectroscopy to the non- invasive measurement of blood and tissue analytes. There, Bob directed the optical and mechanical aspects of research and development. While in New Mexico he also directed the activities of CIC Photonics, Inc., serving as chairman of the board and chief executive officer. CIC Photonics is the result of a merger between Connecticut Instrument Corporation, formerly of Norwalk, CT, a company which Bob founded in 1989, and Environmental Photonics, Inc. formerly of Atlanta, Georgia. CICP designs and produces sampling instrumentation for FT-IR spectroscopy. Bob was awarded the Williams-Wright Award in 1996 for outstanding contributions to industrial infrared spectroscopy. He is the author or co-author of 12 articles and book chapters and co-editor of one book on infrared microspectroscopy, he holds 35 patents and currently has several patents pending for various inventions relating to infrared spectroscopy and microspectroscopy. He has made numerous conference and seminar presentations in the United States, Europe and
Japan, and organized and chaired symposia in infrared spectroscopy. He has served on the faculty of the Molecular Microspectroscopy Workshop at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. His research interests include biomedical applications of infrared spectroscopy, infrared diffuse reflectance, emission, microscopy, cryogenic measurements, FT- Raman spectroscopy and other developing techniques. He is currently president of the Coblentz Society, past president of the Rio Grande section of the SAS, a past-president of the Southwestern Connecticut section of the Optical Society of America, and a member of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy, and the American Chemical Society. Bob received the B. A. degree (1980) in natural science from the University of Pennsylvania. |
